outskirts: life and times in charlottesville

…small town life

The voices from this tiny little nightmare called Charlottesville are beginning to speak. We want something related to television from this century.

Can Horton hear a Hoo? Can a Hoo ever do enough to get television in to the village? Why haven’t the local politicians raised their voice to force the local stations to 1) go HD, and 2) grant permission to DirecTV users who wish to watch network television?

Who will speak up?

OK…so I guess they actually got snow here in Virginia ten years ago. Today was sunny and 65. I did my 8 mile run. I wonder if it will even snow again this year. So far…three inches.

There is an expression here in VA that says Virginia is for Lovers. If that means lovers of primitive society, garbage (we are the #2 state in the country for taking in garbage from others), or low-def misery then it must be true.

If you love high tech, HDTV, winters that have snow, or civilized society, then VA is not the place for you. (Please note: this does not include NOVA…since they do have technology).

Why can’t a TV station in VA broadcast for one hour without technical problems? Is TV new to society? No.

The thrill of excitement was here in town today as the downtown area got shut down around rush hour. I guess they found some garbage in an envelope. Why do I get the feeling that someone was sending a card with sprinkles on it to grandma and the sprinkles got lose. If anyone thinks that a haz-mat team is needed in this village, you had better think more about a waste-dump toxic leak. That would be far more worthwhile.

And to add to the fun of the village, a rapist will be rolling in to town in the next few weeks…unless of course he just heads out of the country. Good old UVA.

Now, will you all give me money like you do to Pat Robertson? I heard God was planning on getting rid of Prime Minister Paul Martin because he is a liberal. Instead of throwing money at this whack job (who of course is here in VA – is he for the lovers?) why not donate your religious money to me? I’d thank you with as much meaning as he would.

See what low def TV does to me…FIX THINGS NOW. Change rules about cable tv dominance in the media industry. Demand freedom of entertainment choice. Be like TJ and demand liberties. Bring down the low def world. Down with LD. Down I say.

Since it was so sunny and warm for the middle of January I figured I would head out and run. I survived the eight miles, but after about 2.5 miles I pulled my left hamstring again. That sucker is slowly killing me. Maybe I spent too much time laying on the couch this weekend watching football, or maybe too much time at work sitting on my ….

Hmm…I just looked at our weather forecast…mid 60′s most of the week. I guess this is winter.

It was a very cold (and clear) early winter. We had two days in which snow or ice fell from the sky. Will we get any more snow?

I can’t stand the fact that this community here in VA is primarily comprised of people that don’t understand how to flip a switch. I despise Virginia. Virginia, there is no Santa Claus.

Living in a technological toilet is just so depressing. Why can’t this area modernize?

I personally hope that every person associated with this WHSV would get some Egyptian curse put on them so evil eradicates all of them. If they had just given me permission to receive a national feed of ABC via a service I pay for I wouldn’t wish them, their family, and all their pets a wee bit of ill will. Maybe Pat Robertson will send God to eradicate them all later tonight.

I was told about pixelpost a few weeks ago and thought it looked very plain and simple for getting a daily picture out to my loyal readers (all three of you). I’ve set that up and now have the daily snapshot in the sidebar.

I want to make lots of changes to the picture template in the near future, but it’s always good to just get started on such things as this. Better to start than just think about it, plan, and prepare. The beauty of the web is that it is always under development, so mistakes don’t really matter…just call it a stage of development.

Since the commenting feature is not very robust in pixelpost it is likely that I won’t be allowing comments on the photos…but we’ll see…

I figured the very first shot might as well be the one I put up the other day…a dark night of ice falling on the village.

A suspicious briefcase had authorities evacuating the Fashion Square Mall. Bond, James Bond…of Albemarle County Police took care of the problem. I wonder if he settled in with a martini and a tall blonde after the incident. As a guess…No. Dr. No.

Briefcase plus martini plus ursula

For those that use OSX 10.4 and actually use Dashboard stuff, and have a WordPress blog, check out WordPress Dash. I finally have a reason to use Dashboard!

So as anyone with a brain knows, Arrested Development is the best comedy on network television right now. Unfortunately most Americans don’t have one so few people watch the show, and FOX has decided to cancel it even though it wins awards. The writers of the show have incorporated the cancellation notice into the plot line in a very creative way, and even showed a URL during the show.

Be sure to drop by www.savethebluths.org if you are interested (the site says things are in the process of being updated). They do have a nice Flash animation up which has a few laughs in it. I wonder if FOX may try to shut the site down? It will all come down to money.
