Doc,

It's easy to get 'associated' with a university. Just join the alumni association. It's pretty easy to sneak in as an 'attended classes but didn't graduate' person. :)

Most people who like cities choose not to drive anywhere (12k in 7 years), so the gym options are limited. Gold's Gym has been remodeling for about 3 years, and from what I've been told it is still not open for business (plus it is depressing being near that eyesore theater that closed 6.5 years ago and sits there rotting). Since my feminine side is a bit lacking I can't drive off to those gyms.

Believe it or not, there are people in this village that AREN'T associated with the U. I'm sure that is incomprehensible to some. I believe there are currently over 120,000 people in this metropolitan area. What percent work at UVA? From the stats I have it is around 28,000 people. What percentage do you define as most?

It seems that most = 23% is the proper number. I guess that is good C-Ville math.

ACAC ain't no monopoly. I just noticed yesterday that Gold's Gym has expanded into a much bigger facility. There's also a New Fitness for Ladies. Anybody affiliated with UVa (which is to say most of us) can use their extensive facilities. The Boar's Head Inn has what I understand to be a nice gym. There's a Curves for Women just up 29.

And that's just what I can think of off the top of my head. There's clearly no shortage of competition in the local fitness industry.
