I think that when the chalkboard is first unveiled we will see a spurt of interesting posts and drawings. Certainly John Grisham and the other celebrity attendees will have to leave their marks on the board. For a few months after that the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression, the actual owners of the monument, will engineer a show for the media that will make this thing look like it is all they dream it will be. Teachers from various schools will bring their students down to the mall on field trips to the monument. The students will produce thought provoking and creative works that will be genuinely interesting and the local news media will suck it up. It will look as though those who now say that this board will be a magnet for profane and juvenile graffiti are nothing but a bunch of pessimistic cynics. Give it a little time though and the truth will win out. It may not take too much time though, like maybe one night. I don't know what exactly will happen or when and that will at leat make it interesting to watch.

Doc,
Are you going to run in the VIA 5K on Saturday?

I may be wrong. I have limited data to base my judgement on. I will wait for RP's photo expose of the unveiled mural.

There is a camera there, Raman's.

The point of Free Speech is you get a lot of good, but you have to accept the bad side. My question is why does the city feel this is beneficial to the community? Fostering "constructive" Free Speech can be a great thing, but what they created seems to be a wall of random crap. Much like the wall in the gas station bathroom.

"For a good time, meet TJ here at 8PM."

The fact there is "pornography" in crude drawings is not the point. If you put up a public chalkboard, why shame people? Shame is just a way of getting rid of people who don't agree with the morals of the majority. Viva la Freedom! I feel some people were fooled into thinking this monument had ANYTHING to do with art. Ha ha ha ha..... Then, if they feel bad about spending all that money and censor it, it isn't even a monument to free speech.

What do you want a camera for? Do you want government surveilance of a monument to free expression so that people who wite something offensive can be arrested? Maybe their pictures could be published on The Cvlle Weeklys "Rant" page.
