Well, tomorrow is the grand opening of the 0.275 million dollar wall that rich people have created in an effort to get better tax breaks (just a theory of course..as is everything). Famous people will be here including our local John Grisham. I wonder if DMB will be there (or are they still dumping human waste on people)?

The construction continues this morning, since a few bricks still need to be put in place.

I can’t wait until we can read more fascinating things. Is that good art or what? I wonder if any of this great work will make it in to the local press. I have lots of other pictures of the art just for historical purposes. We want to try to preserve as much of the old south as possible.
It looks like we might actually get a modern movie theater in the future. Of course, with construction speed around here I’ll be dead long before this gets built.
If it does get built, that will be the beginning of the end for the “historic” downtown mall of C-Ville. Oh wait…never mind…that happened years ago.
When will the theater be completed? Before or after I head out of the village? Thursday is the grand opening of the First Amendment Monument to pornographic freedom here in the village. Stop by the outskirts for the first web photos. Rumor has it some big names may be there. Why? Why did we spend millions for a public chalk board? Now we just have to spend money on it to remove gang marks.
Do you have thoughts about the annoyingly loud music that pours out from the big dishcloth at the end of the mall…
A meeting to discuss the concerns of residents being effected
by the Charlottesville Pavilion is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Monday April 17th.Meeting Location: Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church in
Belmont. Corner of Hinton and Church St. Meet in the chapel.Last year a group of citizens concerned with the pavilion’s
impact on the surrounding neighborhoods approached city council
and pavilion management to initiate an equitable compromise
primarily concerning the volume of the concerts.Join us as we discuss the progress that was made and help plan
the groups strategy for securing a solution that everyone can
live with.
I fear any solution that is worked out is for Coran Capsize, and it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks. One might think the city would care, but Coran owns the city…so that is that.
UVA students were on day 4 of a sit-in to promote wages of some at the U (I could go on about that…but won’t today). They were then dragged off to prison. Although it has not yet been posted anywhere (at least not that I’ve seen), the protest continues as more students have set up tents in a new location with a big sign saying they aren’t going away that easily.
I wanted to go snap a photo, but I was on mile 3 as I ran past them, and by mile 8 I didn’t feel up to grabbing the camera and doing another 3 miles. Such is my photojournalistic life. When will I have a nice DSLR embedded in my head?
Why oh why can’t people keep their kids from screaming for endless hours out in public. All kids are perfect…at least according to the deaf parents who listen to the loud screaming 24/7. Ugh. Why can’t they just call them iKids and attach sound limiting devices to their vocal cords at birth? Perhaps a mute button. And maybe a “ship off to a boot camp” button. I think we need a good class action lawsuit to get this going. Anyone want in?
OK…it is almost 90 degrees outside. It is very, very hot. It is very, very humid. This reminds me why I hate the area so much. I really don’t like the south.
Seattle and Minneapolis both have a high around 50 today. We are 40 degrees over that. The AC got turned on for the first time. Will it get shut off by the end of September? I’ll have to wait half a year to find out.
A few thunderstorms rolled through earlier tonite with a lot of lightning. I’d just decided to shut of the tube and unplug a few things when a bolt hit someone on the street. The block went black.
I shut down the mac mini since I had a feeling we’d be down awhile. It ended up being four hours (amazingly short by village standards). It was a bit frustrating since it was truly a “one block in the entire village” event. Twenty feet away sat a house bathing in the elegance of power as I used the bright screen of my iBook to look up the phone number of the power company.
Storms are going to be rolling through for the next four days. Living on the highest block in the area has its upside, but the downside is definitely the stray bolts of lightning. Hopefully no more power outages…since there is even less to do around here when there is no power.
The radar shows another band of storms about 40 minutes away. Fun! I love a good thunderstorm.
Yesterday I hit the gym, but had a rather mediocre workout. Today I headed out for my 8ish mile run. Half way in to it I basically wanted to stop and call a cab, but I stumbled through the rest of the run. For the last few days biking home from work has made my legs feel like rubber. Are the spring allergies sucking all my energy? I always have about a week of total exhaustion every spring when something chooses to bloom, but no other symptoms. I guess something is blooming.
Another thing blooming here in the village is the number of arrests among UVA athletes (or see the hook’s posting). I guess spring is in the air (break in to song here).
I headed up to DC for a wedding this weekend. The weekend in DC was a great, but exhausting, mini-vacation. The wedding went smoothly. I’d never spent any time in Alexandria before and really enjoyed it. If you are ever there Restaurant Eve is the place to be if your wallet is feeling up to the challenge.
On the drive up 29 I noticed yet another Mars-like environment on the side of the road where yet another complex is getting put in. The water tower they were building looked really odd to say the least. I almost stopped to take a few shots but didn’t. I see on the web that someone else already took some shots. Soon there will be no “empty spaces” between the village and DC. If only they would put in a commuter train. Why can’t America push a good transport system?
Now I’m back in the village…for better or worse as they would say in a wedding.
