In respect to the damn hot weather and the effort of the eastern half of the US to conserve energy, I have shut my brain off this week.
I’ve been tired, feeling weak, and downright depressed since getting back from NYC. Going up there made me realize what a dinky donut C-Ville really is. If I had lots of money like all the other people around here (except of course for the 25.9% that live below the poverty line) I could jet away to nicer places all the time (and often for months at a time), but alas, I have a job and only a few spare coins kicking around. Speaking of which, I have to take my spare change off to that Coinstar thing one of these days. I’ll probably be able to buy at least one martini with all those pennies.
I was over at my Flickr page and noticed that the number one most viewed photo that I’ve put up is my outside shot of The X Lounge.
I also get a kick out of the fact that I’m #1 over at Google when you search for Charlottesville X Lounge. I know a few people that found the place by finding my photo. I know they are starting a mailing list, but I forgot to give them my email address the last time I was in there.
It was so hot last night that I went for my run after the sun went down. It didn’t really matter. It was just hot. I wanted to drop dead after the first ten minutes…but plodded along with my big jug of water for the full 5-ish miles. During the run I pass by one house that has no AC. It is not in a great area. On the front is a big sign saying “Do Not Enter.” At one point there was one of those mini-police offices right next to it, but I think that they pulled funding on those. Now a for lease sign stands over the door of it. The house is one of those where if you needed something a bit outside the box, it might be the place to visit. As I stumbled on by a full party was going on in the front yard (what else can you do with no AC?). Music was blaring. A lot of big black SUV’s were pumping up the volume.
I took another swig of my energy/vitamin enriched water and plodded along. It sure was hot out.
