A quick review of the new TV season that started up last week by you know who…FOX. My little postings during the next two months will primarily focus on new shows, and pretty much only things in HD (does anyone watch low def?).
Prison Break on FOX got going last week. It isn’t a new show, but since it was up against other shows last year I never had time to get in to it. Since there is nothing else on right now I tuned it and am now hooked. I’ll be getting the DVD’s of season 1 so I can zip through those when I get some time.
After Prison Break was the debut of Vanished. It is yet another FOX show where each episode takes place is a rather short time frame. Someone gets kidnapped and every episode will introduce about 30 new possible clues and mysteries so we are never sure of what is really going on. A rather familiar framework for the network, and the pace of the show is pretty weak as compared to Prison Break.
The only thing that kept me watching the first episode was Rebecca Gayheart playing a reporter. She is hot, although not quite as hot as she was in the good old Earth2 days. Unfortunately, by the middle of the 2nd episode that didn’t even hold my interest.
The show may make it through this season (or at least half of it), but won’t make it to next year.
Tonite is another new FOX show. Right after the 2nd season opener of Bones the pilot episode of Justice will be shown at 9. “Members of a powerful Los Angeles law firm take the case of a high-profile realtor accused of murder.” Sounds a bit like a knock-off of Boston Legal, but in LA with some murder thrown in (will the Bones woman have to help out?). I’ll at least take a look and let you know my thoughts…

Glad to see you join the ranks of the addicted to Prison Break. I was really unsure how they would continue the series after they escaped. I am glad to see they have clever writers.
I know you didn’t get into Stargate SG-1, but it is in its final season and won’t be picked up. Ten seasons is still quite a long run. I hear talks the creator of the motion picture may be working on movies, but he says he doesn’t want to tie them to the series. I think a few feature films might be the best way to send out the franchise.
Of course, speaking of big franchises, they are working on Star Trek 11 as I understand it. One can only guess at where they go next, but it will no doubt be where no man has gone before. Maybe this episode will feature the return of Captain Kirk’s girdle as Captain Picard’s nemesis.
Keep us informed of what else is on the horizon. Maybe 2007 will be the year that I make the switch to HDTV!
“Maybe 2007 will be the year that I make the switch to HDTV!”
Make is so!
Prison Break is a bit different, with everyone on the outside, this year. Loving the addition of William Fichtner as a very well-qualified investigator. So far, I’m liking this season.
Same reaction on Vanished. Thin on just about everything: plot, acting…you name it. I’ll set the dead pool at 6 episodes.
Bones was as good as ever. Quite enjoyable to see Temperance’s new boss bring the smackdown on the US Attorney. Poor Zaccaroni. What a nickname.
I’m sticking with Justice. Victor Garber rules. And the show is a smart look at how big cases really are tried as much in the media, as in the courtroom. Here’s hoping they can keep it as interesting as the first time out.
I couldn’t keep my eyes open during Justice. I have a feeling it will retool (or go away) when baseball playoffs begin. It tried to be a bit to close to Boston Legal, but the lawyers all looked about 18 years old…and most were men.
The smackdown on Bones was pretty funny, as was the burning of the spam. The show only mildly holds my interest, so if anything better goes against it I’ll jump to that.
