While the rest of the world has advanced in technology C-Ville has continued to live in the primitive days of Windoze and low def TV. Will this ever change? Does anyone even care?
There was an article written up in the Daily Regress related to Crutchfield and the fact that they were selling an amazing number of HD sets during the holidays. Why? There is no HD cable around here, and only one station broadcasts in HD. Not all can get a dish. Perhaps the big issue is that locals have never seen real HD..just stretched LD on a HD set. They are still amazed at fire. Around here television is stretched. Distorted pixels. Ancient technology.
Comcast bought the cable company that used to own the village (I can’t even remember the name). The rumors of HD began. July. September. December. January. Still nothing. Comcast has been dumping metal wires all over the sidewalks across town for months. I walk through the pile of wires every day. I wonder how many squirrels have been killed by the wires. Oh well. It is C-Ville. Does anyone really care? Spitting and smoking are far more important to life. Does the city mind that so many wires were put all over the sidewalks? (I think they are far more interested in pretending the village matter where politics are concerned.)
The latest rumor is that the local stations will begin broadcasting in HD on February 1, 2007, and Comcast will begin to carry HD in the area at that time.
Does anyone really believe this? Will C-Ville ever be able to make fire? Or will they get voted off the island. I have a feeling the latter is a good guess. And the first person voted off the island of modern technology? [C-Ville leaves the set in tears. Fade to credits.]

You’re right. We don’t care. I am too busy worrying about things like Iraq and the economy and how I’m going to afford a one-bedroom apartment to care about the fact that the local TV stations haven’t upgraded to a form of technology only available to people who can afford $1000 TVs. Why don’t you worry more about the content of your news and less about how pretty it looks on your TV screen.
Read your comments on the Hook blog. Please don’t write things like that. I am a Hokie too. And I’m not a huge fan of Charlottesville. But your comments only add to the Hoos’ belief that Hokies are ignorant.
Every little think in the world does not have to be earth shattering and mind numbing lil’ Hokie. I do care abou the quality TV on my (really freaking big!!!) flat panel TV with (Really freaking expensive) Bose surround sound so that I can sit on my butt and watch el’ Tube.
And I will often skip a more desired program for my second choice, if it in HD.
So I get Dish Network and sadly, do not watch any local channels except for NBC29 dgital rabbit feed while the other networks are tripping over cowpies in Bleaksburg.
Hokie dude, guess you’re so busy worrying about Iraq and shit that you haven’t noticed HDTV’s can be had for less than $500 at Wal-Mart.
Oh, but wait, Wal-Mart is an eeevil big box store so you wouldn’t dare step in there for risk of losing your progressive street cred.
As for not being able to afford a one bedroom apartment, maybe a little less time worrying about Iraq and a little more effort being productive in the labor force? I’m just sayin’ is all…
As a Barbaloot, I was always taught to despise Hokies, along with plain-belly Sneetches and Zax that go the wrong way. When that nasty Grinch stole Christmas from the Hoos, did the Hokies lift a finger? No! If you Hokies had your way, we’d all be buddying up to Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose and trying to topple Yertle the Turtle. Go hug a Truffula Tree, you Beft.
Okay Okay – huh? What is ? It’s an inside C’ville thing – guess I have been away from C’ville too long?
Hos vs. Hoks? (single o on purpose) What is the difference? Does anyone really care more about what happens in Iraq compared to their own personal well being? HD is far more important that a wee little war.
As for my comments on The Hook blog…they have been doing a lot of editing lately and removed most of them. I guess freedom of speech doesn’t extend to blogs in C-ville..but I have a good long posting related to this planned that will probably piss off a person or two…and show you what free speech in C-Ville is all about.
Just ask the guy who has an itch. He knows all about free speech.
Glad to hear it – I’m ready to write some things and piss off some annoying people. Well, one can only hope.
So, Doc, give ‘em hell…
BTW – I DO care about my own well being and HD – and I, too, do care about about that wee little war – I just do not know what to do about it. Do you know who would be President if Air Force one went down and the vice – man had a coronary – Nancy Pelosi – not that I actually want that to happen – impeachment would be great they could do a double play on that. I don’t think Nancy would be bad. I’ll bet she could get HD for C’ville.
Pehaps clean house as it were…
