For those that lived in a fantasy world and believed that local stations might start broadcasting in HD, think again. From the HD Forums:
I’ve received confirmation that there will no HD over the air from the Gray stations likely this year. They hope to by early 2008. To all those anxiously waiting to hopefully see the SuperBowl in HD via antenna, it’s a big let down. Comcast is your only solution for the near future.
An even bigger question is will Comcast ever get around to providing HD on the cable. They still haven’t, and none of the five flyers they mail to me every week mention HD. Perhaps they should spend more money working on their system and not sending me so much physical spam.
Local television technology is to 1984 as breeders are to C-Ville.
I’ll be enjoying HD from the NYC station. I sure hope local advertisers don’t expect me to see their commercials. Why don’t all the advertisers simply pull all money from the local TV stations until they modernize? What a waste of money.

Note: There is a statement that one channel will now be on Comcast in HD. You’d better be sure to go pick up your HD box, and add a few bucks to your monthly bill.
Will anyone in C-VIlle even know what HD looks like? Do they even know what TV looks like? Do they even know what electricity is?
Rumors are flying on this subject. From the HD Forums: “I spoke with someone in marketing at CBS this AM. She or someone there may post to this group soon. She told me that they plan on OTA broadcasting CBS in time for the Super Bowl and that ABC and Fox should soon follow. Comcast will likely start broadcasting as well, though they this AM said that they did not have any plans. Obviously, there are likely technical issues that may arise, but it appears that they are very interested in getting the signal up. A post here would be a sure sign of trying to get the word out.”
