The Fins went with a wide receiver that has had foot injuries lately. They could have taken QB Quinn (and they certainly need a QB). Was this a critical error? Was it brilliant? Ugh. I don’t like it. Who will they get for QB later in the draft? Will they trade up to get someone? Will they just wait until the 2nd round and take whoever is left? Hmm…
Pretty much every Fin fan is in shock right now.

Not a good day to be out driving in town. The drunkfest for the locals/UVA is ongoing. The women get stylized in skimpy sun dresses which hide nothing. Men pull out the pimp suits. People “trade” girls around from SUV to SUV while traffic remains motionless (on 29). I wanted to shop so started up the car. The light up ahead of me changed 17 times and traffic had not moved. I decided it was a good time to ditch the driving approach.
Will anyone die from alcohol? Will a horse die?

It has been in the upper 80′s here for the past week. It was supposed to be 71 today. It was 87. Air conditioners are running everywhere. The laziness of the south is apparent. Spitting and smoking are blooming in the springtime.
A banjo plays here in the village after midnight. A group of youth are cackling down the street.
It is loud. I want to call the police..but would they be allowed to do anything about it. I bet there is a law in town that allows banjo playing 24/7, except when church is in service on Sunday morning (and that excludes when banjos are used in the church to play music).
Oh, I’m exhausted. I’ve been in this village three thousand days. It’s always looked so strange. The faces…so bored. In the distance a child is crying…smoking…a bojangled child, perhaps. My mind aches, my heart aches, but my feet…my feet are resilient! Thank God I took off my heels and put on my Hillbilly walking shoes!
This is your brain on banjo music.
I think the heat and thousands of days here have finally done me in. Not sure if I have much more energy to keep letting you all know about the thrill and excitement that takes place here in the village every single day. A change may be needed. A new source of energy.
Now with all the people running around in this village with guns, why can’t someone take out the damn banjo-ite? I fucking want to sleep. Isn’t this considered torture under the Geneva convention?

The Freedom Wall on the historic downtown mall is now one year old. I wonder if I should put together a collection of all the ‘fun’ stuff that has been written during the past year? That would probably be rated NR or R. As far as I know only one person has been taken away. He was writing about using his AK47′s to shoot local doctors from Planned Parenthood.
For the anniversary one side of the wall was done by local artists. I’m not sure what this was supposed to mean (I’m not a philosopher…I just play one on TV), but it was scenic. Lots of people snapping photos of this one.

Yesterday I decided to enter the local half marathon. Having never run a race longer than the C-Ville 10 Miler I was wondering how it would go.
It went pretty well. Right around 1 hour and 41 minutes, so a pace of about 7:42 per mile. I’m happy with that. Time to shower and then not move for a good chunk of the day (or week…we’ll see how I feel tomorrow).

Report from a tipster:
Several people were out on the street (in the historic north downtown portion of C-Ville) watching at least four ABC tree trimming trucks. One guy was up in the bucket trimming and a snap, pop, sizzle, bang was heard. A big, thick power line running to to a house was lying across the hood of a car, as well as a pipe that had been ripped from the wall, which had hit the front hood of the car.
No electricity for a few downtowners.
Another typical day in the village.

Overheard at a local gym…
Jim: That shooting at Virginia Tech was tragic.
Joe: But at least we might get better football recruits.
Jim: Yep.
(names are fictitious, conversation is real)
You should always look at the bright side of life.

So we had a gust of wind here in the village yesterday (all the way up to 38mph). In the middle of downtown Charlottesville I had no electricity for the past 24 hours.
I didn’t get to comment on the Hokie Massacre, being gone for a week in a real city, or even the current issue of the C-Ville where they talk about how to buy a 9mm semi-automatic pistol for a few hundred bucks.
Hmm…did I read that the VT Killer used that type of gun. Should the C-Ville have not released that story?

I can’t believe I missed this one…arguments, barrage of bullets, blasted windows, innocent bystanders…all on the corner.
Hopefully the village will remain calm until I roll back in to town, since I can’t stand it when I miss the fun. I feel so left out.

This Saturday one of the favorite things in the village cranks up again. The City Market.
Much loved for the fresh vegetables, flowers, bagels, crafts and cheese among other things, it is also a perfect way to wake up and socialize.
I hear that a number of people at this event are big in to the socializing part. Particularly on the swinging side of things. No wonder it is so popular.
I guess the woman that forgot she had her baby in her car won’t be going, since they have now arrested her.
