I seem to recall a fight over the issue of who exactly pays to keep all the signs on the mall up to date. Something tells me money went somewhere, but not to update the signs…if you know what I mean. I wonder if the village will now start asking businesses that leave to pay for sign removal.
Can you tell what is wrong with this pair of pictures? Feel free to click on them to see a larger version.
I seem to recall Subway left about two years ago. Oh well. Perhaps the village assumes people can’t read, so no one will notice.

… I’ve been reading this site for awhile now. Like your style, find the writing witty, fan of your photography. However (you just KNEW there was gunna be a but here
) I can’t figure out 3 things:
A) Do you actually like it here?
B) If you don’t, why not leave?
C) If leaving is not an option, then why not try to run for something and hopelessly bash your head against these issues full time?
If it’s mostly about venting, I’m down with that - like I said I like the writing, and don’t disagree w/ much of your take on things. But as a poor shmuck that has to work too much up in NoVahell & Richmond - seems that the perspective is off.
Did you consider that maybe those signs are historically significant and should be preserved? Maybe the Board of Architectural Review won’t allow their removal. After all, the signs are on the historical (or is it hysterical?) Downtown Mall.
I think you should run for office. In order to encourage you to become politically active I am going to write you in for one of the seats on City Council. You’ll be in excellent company since my other votes will go to Bag of Leaves and the esteemed war hero, Old Relish Packet.
I hate to have to say this but I am very concerned with Bag of Leaves’ position on environmental issues. Really wouldn’t the environment would be much better off if everyone composted their leaves instead of bagging them? I will vote for Peter Kleeman instead of Bag of Leaves.
