One thing that is very obvious in this village is the lack of villagers that ride the bus. One reason I don’t ride the bus is that it is faster to walk than ride the bus. Another is that the system/buses will sometimes just decide not to pick people up, run down pedestrians at a crosswalk, have many running on the same roads, or shut down for the day.
Another bit of wackiness is that within one mile you have three separate bus systems. Albehmarahhhh County, C-Ville, and UVA. The three parties chat on occasion, but nothing ever changes. I believe October is “free bus” month. Will that get more riders? Will it help to get rid of situations where there are more buses than riders?

Five people (of which I believe a few are drivers) with seven buses. That is a problem.

You’re RIGHT! It is frequently quicker to walk than to bother with CTS. Walking is a lot healthier too, unless you get run over by a bus running a red light in front of a police car, as almost happened to me this morning. The police officer did smile and wave at me so I should be happy happy happy, right?
You’re WRONG! There are not three separate bus systems. There’s two, CTS and UTS. Albmahl County and the city of Shawhlsvile both fund CTS and Mistuh Jeffasun’s university funds UTS. Combining UTS and CTS seems like a no-brainer to me but given the importance of turf among the local bureaucrats and elected officials I really doubt that a merger of the bus systems will ever take place.
I suspect that the city has resisted merger in the past because they didn’t want students to have UTS access to neighborhoods that are not adjacent to the grounds and the university resisted merger because they didn’t want local poor people on “their” buses. Recently I heard a rumor that merger may make it more difficult for students to work as drivers due to some kind of government regulations.
