If you listen to the village elders everything is great around here. Well, it is if you have. There is a rumor that you will once again be able to buy a new Porsche at a local car dealer. It has been painful for the locals since they’ve had to go a full year without the ability to buy a $140k car. “Life without a Porsche dealership is equivalent to life without a decent newspaper,” according to one local (I wonder what they consider a decent paper…the Daily Progress???).
So far, so good. All of us locals should go out and buy one. Of course, let’s look at the other side of things. C-Ville schools just found out that they got a bonus $163k from Title 1 funds. These funds are given to schools where 40% or more of the students are below poverty levels. Just about half of the C-Ville students can’t afford lunch. The extra money will be used to increase the pay for teachers, and to buy supplies for elementary school students.
So when you think of how great C-Ville is, think about the fact that half the students in the city schools can’t afford lunch, but locals are thrilled that a new Porsche dealer is about to come to town.
