What I would like to see is bus passes for downtown commuters and shoppers. It is a PEDESTRIAN MALL. Open up free feeder parking lots on the "outskirts" and enable commuters and shoppers alike to take the bus downtown.

Absolute worst decision Charlottesville could have made. In Harrisonburg, they have increased the number of hours for metered parking, so that business patrons and employees, court employees and defendants could park for longer periods of time (up to 10 hours) without having to cut their shopping short, leave work or run out of court to feed the meter, only to possibly miss their court appearance or decrease productivity and revenue. In other areas of downtown Harrisonburg, they eliminated metered parking completely by making it free. This is what proved to be the real positive impact on businesses in their downtown area. This decision will greatly affect those employees and patrons who do not live within CTS or JAUNT route areas, even the report cites this fact. Are they to now do the "2-hour shuffle"?. Wasn't the purpose of this study to decrease the amount of "2-hour shuffle" taking place?

I am already wondering how much work I (and my coworkers) will now get done during a typical workday. How much will this cost the local businesses it is supposed to help? Can you imaging the loss of productivity. Every 1.75 hours, stop what you are in the middle of, leave your desk for twenty minutes, move your car, then come back and get back to what you were doing. You will probably have to do that at least 4 times a day. 1.5 hours lost per day per employee, what does that cost?

I just called and left Donovan a message. I encourage everyone else reading this to pick up the phone and bombard them with angry calls.

The people in the other companies in my building are scrambling now trying to figure out what to do as the signs are being changed. It's rather entertaining from my perspective, but I'm sure not from theirs.
