outskirts: life and times in charlottesville

…small town life

I am shocked that dub-yah is ruining television this evening. He is without a doubt the most disastrous president in the history of our once great nation. We have migrated to the 2nd world, and within a century WE will be the 3rd world.

I am embarrassed that I am American. W on TV makes me want to shoot myself. My future is being destroyed with every word. I’m glad GOD feels this is the proper way to go. GOD made our fine country vote the way it did.

By the way dub-dub, how goes the war with Iraq. I heard that was over about three years ago. I also heard they are now a free and proud country. I also heard that the elected officials, and our soldiers, are being killed every day. I wish our country was that free. What happened to our number one enemy O? Forgot about him did ya?

This country should be ashamed of what they have done to themselves.

Tyranny, darkness, torture chambers, and graves are the benefits of a free society. — GW Bush

I wonder if the Bush Death Squads will now drag me away for thinking.

I feel like screaming about fifty ludicrous things that Bush has said, but I really see little point. The religious zealots will continue to love him and his GOD FEARING way of government. All praise GOD. He will fix all problems. Why can’t he let people have freedom of choice?

I wonder how Yale feels about letting him buy a degree. Do the Yalies cringe in fear when they see him? Do they deny that they sold him a degree? Did he even show up for a class, or was he in a drunken stupor all day?

While I’m ranting, I am can’t stand the fact that he said the best way to help Americans deal with the high price of fuel is to force other country to produce more, and to dig up Alaskan National Parks. I hate to tell you dub, but having people drive one day less per week would decrease the price by 1/7. Try doing that by next week by digging up nature.

He has also stated that no one has talked about an energy policy in 30 years. I seem to recall Gore discussed that in depth. I guess W took so many drugs that he already forgot that election. And, he was so busy ‘eradicating’ various competitors.

Oh..now the idiot says he doesn’t want to interupt television. As with everything else, he does not realize he has already ruined it.

To top it off, FOX has decided to not show The O.C. tonite. Bush is lower than a mosquito. Why can’t America crush a bug? I guess they just like losing blood.

I’ve got so many bits and pieces of outskirts.com backed up in various places. After the hard drive melted the other day, I have debated if I should place any of the previous content back on the web.

Should you leave your past behind every now and then with no remants kicking around, or should you try to hang on to old stuff so the world can look at it? Or maybe a combination of the two. For now, I’ve scrapped the entire past and don’t have the time or energy to put anything back online in the near future. Such is life…I guess…

Tomorrow I head over to UVA to look at the past of my head. Remember when MRI’s were called NMR Images? I wonder why they decided to drop the nuclear part from the term. Were people getting scared? I kind of enjoy getting my MRI, and almost fall asleep on occasion. If I wanted to, I guess I could ignore the past of my head, but I keep an eye on it (so to speak) every year. Maybe ditching the entire past is not the best approach. If I ever find some time, maybe some of the past will show up on the blog.

Is a blog a reflection of the memories of your life? Or just a few bits on a hard drive?

Have bookmarks gone the way of Gopher? I have started to realize that I no longer go to my bookmarks when looking for many sites, I simple Google them. Google is like bookmarks that update daily.

Hmm…I can name that band in one google search.

As I sit here trying to recover from a 14 hour work day, I’m glad that TV is making me smarter.

From the NYT:

For decades, we’ve worked under the assumption that mass culture follows a path declining steadily toward lowest-common-denominator standards, presumably because the ”masses” want dumb, simple pleasures and big media companies try to give the masses what they want. But … the exact opposite is happening: the culture is getting more cognitively demanding, not less.

The Dolphins (under Nick Saban, aka St. Nick) did pretty well in the draft this weekend, at least as far as guestimates go, since you never really know how people will do in the upcoming years. I was hoping they would go with Braylon Edwards with the second pick, but I can live with Ronnie B. If the Fins didn’t have the toughest (on paper) schedule in the NFL, they would actually have a pretty good shot at the playoffs. In the current AFC East, that will be a significant challenge.

Only 3.5 months until the first pre-season pro football game of the year!

They claim that there are two days off for a weekend. I think I missed them. I’m so tired right now that I fear going in to work tomorrow. Will I have enough energy to do anything? I wonder.

I usually put about a dozen things on a list of things to do each weekend. A very manageable list. Right now I’ve got about 70 things on my list. Whenever that happens the list always ends up getting thrown out. Not manageable.

I have decided to rent the 2nd floor of my house, and the new tenant is driving from NYC to here as I type. He should arrive around 11. I enjoy the solitude of the house, but the rent can only help make mortgage payments, and I also heard I get some tax breaks due to depriciation on the house. Guess we’ll see how it goes.

I worked out on Saturday morning. I thought about going for a run today, but it is just plain cold outside. In the past week I’ve had my heat on two days, my AC on one, and nothing on the other four. Up and down the temperature goes. Where it will stop..oh wait…it never stops…

I’m back up to jogging 8 miles about 2-3 times/week. I’m wearing those knee stabilizer bandages on my left knee all the time, and right knee every other time. I’m sort of getting used to them. I’m also doing a lot more leg work at the gym. Will I be able to take a shot at another marathon? I’ll chat with a doc before I think about it. This week I get my yearly brain scan. Always fun to see how the little beast is doing.

Relaxing dinner in Dallas

There was one restaurant I really enjoyed in the West Market area of downtown Dallas. It was a gorgeous evening.

The city named best place to live in America ironically lost more of its population over the last four years than any other jurisdiction in Virginia.

Seems as if people are getting out of the village.

New category…Charlottesville. Should I post my daily rants here, or should I migrate to a sub-blog? Decisions, decisions.

Forecast high of 87 degrees tomorrow. That is not exactly normal - for April.

Update: Thursday, 8:37AM. Forecast is now 91 degrees.
