I’ve really been debating if I want to buy a new PowerBook right now. Monday morning decisions…I have a feeling I’ll do nothing about it today. I should really calculate how much time I’ll waste just going to the Apple store to check prices on the refurbished computers, and how much background stress the thinking will cause. I have a feeling I should just buy it…

You could also call Apple on refurbished or online–they have good deals on their educators pages… I am sure you know all this.
Whatever, just go with the flow–do what your heart tells you to do.
ENJOY!
Be safe and have a peaceful holiday. **
I’ve been able to get by with old Macs for such a long time that the Mac OS X running on the G4-500MHz powerbook from work seems “blazing”. It is a little faster and more reliable than the G3-450MHz I also have from work, running OS 9. Both beat the pants off my 1995 PowerPC with 10 year old memory chips and a flaky HD and a G3-500 upgrade card.
I can’t justify buying a Mac for home if I have enough connectivity to get what I need done. My Mac is pretty much a paperweight. It crashes daily and the only solution is to throw it out. Problem is, I have a lot invested in pre-OS X software and I’d have to purchase Photoshop and Office at a minimum. The price of the Mac pales in comparison to legal software costs, even at educator prices. Sharing is not an option for adults.
I may get adicted to Tiger, which just arrived from CDW, and decide I need it at home. I think a new computer for little old me will be a purchase best left for Christmas or next year.
Bottom line, is follow your own heart–if you want it get it and enjoy it. Any software one owns that work on Classic can be easily upgraded at a fairly reasonable price.
As far as justifiing buying a new Mac. Well, we all make choices, some of think buying lawn furniture and flowers is a first consideration (and for them it should be, nothing wrong with it), some of us want a Mac. So, do it if you want. BTW, I do have an address for educators that can bring down cost hundreds of dollars in some cases.

I don’t know if this will help–you may already have it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Do what ever make YOUI feel good–I have a feeling you will. : - ) **
