The Gulf what? Looks like there is now evidence that global warming is starting to affect the Gulf Stream. While were at it, aren’t you glad that Bush has signed away the last 58.5 million acres of untouched national forest by opening it up to mining, road construction, and deforestation.
Time to watch some TV and ignore reality, like 51% of American voters did in the most recent election.

Believe it or not, the Stones are actually going to do a concert here in C-Ville. Without a doubt, the most exciting event in the history of C-Ville (at least since TJ used to have fun).
Tickets will only be $100. When Dave Mathews Band played here in 2001 they couldn’t even sell out the stadium (and his manager owns C-Ville). I have a feeling this one will be sold out rather quickly. Tickets go on sale on May 20.

The morning started out cool and sunny. Rather than working on my infinite to do list I decided to do nothing but relax. I went out, bought the NYTimes, and walked over to a good breakfast cafe. I settled in with a waffle with fresh fruit, and a double shot vanilla latte.
After breakfast I headed back home. I sat on my porch for the next four hours reading the entire Times. The day slowly warmed up and I went out for an eight mile run. The day before I had done a bit at the gym.
I’m tired, well read, and ready to start another week of work.
(note: I could go ballistic about C-Ville and the local folk, but have decided to save that for another day)

After what seems like an infinite number of weeks, Lost has finally shown a new episode. It is back. As is so often the case they show a very interesting story, but only a bit of information is actually given to the viewer. The scenes from next week make you WANT to see the next episode.
The show is brilliant in the fact that it shows the life of people in tiny little slices, and no matter how many slices we see, you really don’t know what the character is all about. For almost any other show the weekly slices of life let you know exactly what/who the character represents.
ABC has a true hit. Can it continue? For most every show in history, the introduction of a baby makes the show jump the shark. Will the brutally annoying baby kill Lost? Or will something on the island kill the baby? Only the next three weeks will let us know the answer to this one.

The past few days have been rough. On my current project at work I began to realize that I no longer know how to do much in the world of multimedia. I keep thinking of things that used to be easy to do, and now I sit staring at the screen, stymied by simple little things.
I basically feel stupid. Maybe I’ve been working to much. Maybe I should take a long vacation. Maybe I should look for a new line of work. I wonder if I could be a barista?
Now I think I’ll play a bit with Automator in Tiger. Cool. Fun for a dumb person. Maybe I can automate myself.
PS…it really was cold last night - the coldest May 2nd in history here in the village.

So May has arrived, along with blooming flowers, gentle summer breezes, and all that good stuff. OK…that all sounds good, but this has actually be a rather cold spring, and that same trend rolls along.
It is typically around 72 for a high, but we’ve been down around the 60 mark. For lows we are also a good ten degrees below average. There was just a bit of frost last night in some places. Down in the 30’s for the next two nights is the current forecast. Guess this makes up for the tropical 70 degree snowless winter we had.
If my knee was feeling better, and I could get out to run, I would love this weather. Sitting outside at the little cafe the other night was great. A new cafe is going to be opening up on the block next to my house. It is a great location, and I hope I like the menu. I could see strolling out of my house and sitting there for a few hours on many evenings, especially if they have a wireless connection.

OSX 10.4 (aka Tiger) is now out in the world. It has a wealth of new features. My order is currently in transit on a UPS truck between Dallas, TX and Memphis, TN. In any event, I still found a way to install it on my old PowerBook Saturday evening (maybe I used a transporter beam).
For those installing it, one word of warming. When you first start it up after the installation, SpotLight will scan every file on your hard drive. This takes a LONG time. About two hours on my old slow 6 Gig HD. I should point out that Tiger requires 256 meg of RAM, and I only have 192 meg. I’m a tad below specs.
Despite my computer being short of the beam, Tiger is running happily. The new Safari is rather nice, the Dashboard full of Widgets is nifty (I’ll be making one of these in the next few weeks if I get time), and I haven’t gotten to use it yet, but Automator will be very useful for us developers.
Now I just need a nice new fast Mac to try all this on! Soon young DocMM, soon.

Thunderstorms drifted around all night Friday, through the day Saturday, and in to the early hours of Sunday. As morning approached the clouds moved off. It was a cool sunny morning with a deft breeze poking at the leaves left in my yard since last fall.
The day…rather meaningless, but the evening was gorgeous. I hung out at a local coffee shop and read the NYT as the temperature began to drop, and the caffeine started kicking in. Dark blue sky with orange streaks everywhere (those airplane trails which were not visible for a few days back in 2001 are a totally different story).
In the arts section there was a story about the end of Star Trek. Has the journey ended? If it has, it would be a sad day after all.

I hit the gym on Saturday morning. Next to me was a typical C-Ville resident. Two kids. Two SUV’s. One husband. And of course, one cell phone in hand. She was constantly chatting on the cell phone while working out on the elliptical (who came up with such a stupid name for a machine - a mathematician?).
The machine tells her that her time has ended. The endless phone chatting continues. She walks away and vanishes to another part of the gym to continue chatting about babies, nursery schools, and all that other typical breeder stuff.
Now, for those of you that don’t belong to gym, when you are done with a machine you are supposed to clean it off with the many bottles of cleanser that lay around. They did an entire Seinfeld episode about that.
Needless to say, she didn’t bother to clean her machine. New rule: no cleaning, no breeding.
