So I ended up getting back from DC around 2am. Very, very tired. Road construction was everywhere. The banquet was rather fun. My company won an award based on science simulations. My hobby and my job are pretty much the same thing. Sometimes good, sometimes not.
While up in DC I got to see something I almost never see here in the rural outskirts of society: women. Single women. To tell you the truth, I had sort of forgotten that single women exist. Let’s just say that single people don’t last very long in this village full of breeders, since insanity generally settles in after a year or two. I’ve outlasted many….but after last night the drive to get out of C-Ville has drastically increased.
Definitely time to start getting out of the sticks more often. A vacation in civilization is looming.

I spoke to a nice woman today. The cashier at Starbucks. Cute. Around 30. Makes me want to hang out at about the only decent coffee shop in the Quad Cities. It’s expensive, but the cashier is friendly. The other “chain” around here is Panera, and it is filled with “breeders”. Soccer moms on cell phones.
They were asking the “question of the day” at Starbucks: Star Trek or Star Wars. I voted for Star Trek, and the staff cheered. I’d assume that any true SciFi enthusiast would choose Star Trek as well. It was comforting to know that the cashier was a Trekkie, for some reason. I’m sure she has a boyfriend though, if she isn’t already married. I agree with RP, any good looking woman gets married to a construction worker early on and starts having kids. Then, sadly, they become those soccer moms and you see them smoking at the mall. Slowly, they transform as they live on a diet of meat and potatoes and give up using belts in favor of elastic waistbands.
I asked her if they had wireless. She said, “Not Yet, but some people are able to get a signal if they sit over there (pointing to the corner of the room).”
