Summer arrived in time for this three day weekend. It is hot. Yesterday they said it would be 83 and it was 87. Today they are saying 90. I’m going with 92. The humidity is oppressive. I was outside for about 30 minutes this morning at 10am. I don’t plan to go out again. The forecast for tomorrow is the same.
Why do people like this?
It won’t make it over 70 in SanFran or Seattle. That sounds nice to say the least.

Part of the answer is conditioning, and no I don’t mean air conditioning. I was born in Panama and lived there (without air conditioning) until I was ten years old. I was amazed at how people complained about the heat and humidity during our first summer here. I thought it was fine and it didn’t bother me at all. Even now, almost 45 years later it still doesn’t bother me like it bothers you. Still, temps in the 70s with low humidity is wonderful.
I lived in Miami for many years. I never liked it for one day.
Cold is the way to go. Keeps the mind active. I went out to snap a few photos of the freedom wall (aka pile of crap) and it is easy to see why so little happens in the south. People move slowly and enjoy puffing on them cigs (do they make people feel cooler? Is that why smoking is so prevalent in the south?). I’m now going to go back in to an air conditioned environment and watch a dozen or so hours of TV. When does summer end? Oh yeah…October or November. Any day now.
While life in Cville is superior to that in San Francisco in a lot of ways, weather’s not one oof them. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, I find the humidity oppressive - my wife and many neighbors have acclimated themselves to it, but it’s never going to happen for me.
