The weekend here in the village has been trickling along at the typical pace of the south under unbearable heat. Absolutely nothing is happening. I was getting discouraged at the lack of interesting news. Typically when school gets out and heat picks up the bang bang rate usually cranks up. During the past few weekends all sorts of guns were going off (including the ‘Panda shooting’) and people have been shot and arrested. This weekend finally picked up with a homicide in the downtown area. Bang bang…someone is dead. I don’t know about the kiss kiss part, but I did love the movie.
Since I’m still wondering if the village is #1 at anything, maybe I should go with this as the new slogan. Charlottesville: The best small town for murders. Or maybe I should just go with crime rather than murder. Tough call. With crime I do know that if you park in the wrong area, your cell phone and iPod will be stolen in just three minutes.
I’m not sure of how many have been killed so far this year (only two that I’m aware of), but it is only June. At the rate we are going we will easily make it to the national average of ~13 murders per 100,000 by the end of the year. With just one random murder thrown in the mix our numbers could skyrocket.
An even bigger question is can the village continue the drastic increase in robberies when October rolls around. Can we continue our pace of increasing at 400%/year. That would be impressive.
It is so hot out.
