A source told me that La Taza was broken in to last night. A lock was jimmied, a window was broken, and the computer/register was attacked. They are currently waiting for the police to document the crime scene.
Yesterday I went for my run and as approaching the 4th street underpass I noticed two people having things thrown at them from the tracks above. Some yelling began and the people moved along. I then was moving under the bridge and a chunk of garbage hit my arm. I glanced back and it was just the local youth having fun flinging garbage at people.
45 minutes later I was finishing my jog and running past everyones favorite place of Friendship. I notice police cars on two different corners in the area, and suddenly a police swat-like van pulls up, and three individuals in bulletproof jackets jump out and head in to the complex. I kept running.
As I mentioned in a previous post, petty crime skyrockets in this place in the summer.

When I went into high school, a running joke among the teachers was that the kids from my middle school knew how to run when they heard authority coming and that we knew how to drop to the ground.
And no, I’m not from Charlottesville.
A few years ago I went on a ride along with the Charlottesville Police.
We pulled up into what was then Garrett Square, before it became the
Court of Friendship, and some guy standing there panicked and took off
running. The cops didn’t recognize him but he ran so they chased him.
It was kind of like the greyhounds at a dog track chasing the fake
rabbit. I followed at a distance as they all ran down Fourth Street
and under the railroad overpass. As the guy ran he was tossing packets
of crack out of his pockets. They tackled and arrested him a short
distance down Water Street. When I got to the overpass three firghtened
boys ran down the bank from the tracks. They thought the cops were
after them! I found out later the cops had never even seen them. Still,
they did end up arresting one of the kids later that night.
I wonder if the garbage that hit me had some crack hidden in it. I should have grabbed it and investigated a bit. I wonder what crack sells for. Making a few extra bucks is always a good thing.
