I heard a few things of interest today while out perusing the mall today. One source (who was busy watering the plants while smoking a cig) said that it looks as if the Nook won’t be reopening. It had been sold back in the summertime and has been closed for most of the peak eating season. Originally they were supposed to open up again in August, then September, and then October. Seems to look pretty bleak.

Elsewhere it looks as if the city might be thinking about changing the Sunday flashing street lights on Market and Water Streets. Currently they sit there blinking all day. With the number of people out wandering around it has become pretty dangerous to cross the road (like the proverbial chicken). I remember when I first moved here NOTHING was open on a Sunday. People went to church and then praised to Allah the rest of the day (or something along those lines). Trying to get a latte, a good waffle with fruit, or a slice of pizza was impossible. Since more people from out of town have moved here, more and more stores are open on Sunday. Now, if we could just get city busses to stop at pedestrian crosswalks when pedestrians are trying to cross.

And speaking of things not opening on time, remember when ACAC (the #1 most overpriced gym in America) started their new downtown gym. At first it was going to open in 2004, then 2005, then early 2006, and then they finally printed out a big ad that announced in for October 30, 2006. Well, guess what. It now looks like the end of November is when it will happen. As a guess, I’ll actually go with 2007.

PS. Thanks to all my tipsters. Also to those that dropped me a line as I went pretty thin on the posting the past week. Always nice to know there are others that want to hear more about “the real C-Ville.”
