Did anything of interest happen in 2006? Oh well…another year. In a last second decision I headed off to a tropical city I’d never been to before. Off I went to Tampa. This sunset was a good way to say goodbye to 2006. I got a nice shot of myself in the 2nd photo…I’m the one in the hat. Hopefully 2007 will be interesting and entertaining.

For 2007 I think I’ll work a bit more on kissing. Keep it simple, stupid.
Happy New Year to all you loyal readers…see you next year.

I guess I wasn’t around as two women got in to a fight over at Rapture (does anyone even remember the eagle-topped 8 ball?) and ended up stabbing the bouncer.
Also, when will the name Friendship Court change to something else, since it doesn’t seem particularly friendly…unless of course your name is Jack ‘the’ Ripper. I guess a gunman is still on the loose.
Speaking of a guy with a gun. Do you really need a gun when you are trying to rob a 73 year old woman at an Arby’s?
I’m sure the locals are also enjoying the 41 degree rainy evening out on the downtown mall. If you are out there be sure to keep an eye out for the gunman and other sex offenders running around in the area. Pursue Virginian Sex Offenders…the new $65k slogan?

In a painful year for the Fins they finished the year the way they started it. A loss. As a matter of fact, they finished with three straight losses. It was also tied for the third worst record in franchise history.
Is there any possibility of hope for 2007? Will the new year bring anything better? If you look at it logically…no…the team will probably have less talent next year due to salary cap, it may have additional coaching changes (Mularkey must go!), the oldest defense in the league will be even older, and there are a wealth of needs that can’t get answered with one draft.
But fans must always assume their team will win the Super Bowl at the start of the year. In the game today the clock was winding down and the Fins could have won the game on the final pass of the play. Tick. Tick. Tick. There was hope….
And it will last in to 2007. Go Fins.

Please don’t forget that here in Charlottesville we are under a pandemic alert (condition yellow). Up to 327 C-Villeites (C-Villians?) could die.
Officials encouraged families to compile an emergency kit with a flashlight, medicine, toilet paper, a portable radio and enough non-perishable food and bottled water for two weeks. Peake said families should not stock up on antiviral drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza because it would cause a shortage for those who need the drugs most.
I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go get as much Tamiflu as possible since the black market drug trade would be a great way to make some spare cash. Don’t forget to pick up a lot of disposable diapers and a manual can opener.
I wish that the Y2k store on the downtown mall was still open. I remember how important that store was for that traumatic period of human existence.

For those that don’t make it over to my Flickr page, here is another shot from the other night. I really love the blue you get with long exposures shortly after sunset (this one had a 5 second exposure…glad I had my tripod!). I’m not big in to New Year’s resolutions, but I’m going to try to take and post one photo/day over on Flickr this year (I heard it is a popular thing all the kids are doing).

I’ll be honest, I can’t think of a single good thing that has happened in my life during 2006. For the start of the new year I’ve been trying to come up with the positives from this past year. So far…nothing. In five days I may have to give up trying and just live with that fact.

The Dolphins lost yet another game. They are now 6-9. They made critical errors. They have no apparent future. They are lost. Years of pointless existence. Perhaps selling the franchise is the only way to change things.

A cool drizzly Christmas day here in the village. I often do a walk about town to snap photos of a deserted village. I’ll probably do that later in the afternoon. Right now I’m off to see if I can find a Starbucks that is open. That certainly seems to be a lively topic of discussion. I’m not a big fan of that particular establishment, but I already know nothing else has a chance of being open around here. Even the stores that say “we never close 24/7″ are closed.
Yesterday I spent about 90 minutes looking for my second 2 gig compact flash card for my camera. It was driving me crazy. I never found it. This morning I lay down on my couch in front of my computer to play with the demo version of Aperture and there it was…sitting right below my monitor (only visible when laying on the couch). Nice to know I didn’t leave it in an airport or anything like that.
Update: 2pm. The Starbucks on 29 across from the Fashion Square Mall is open. It was rather crowded. A former UVA coach was there, and he didn’t seem very friendly when I went to grab the newspaper sitting at the table next to him. Seems he thought it was his. Oh well…I found a Washington Post kicking around (he was reading the Regress).
I noticed some of the chinese buffet places were open, along with all the Subway’s that I drove past. The Blockbuster on Pantops was open. I guess that is so all the parents can get some kidzy movie playing on tv while they pound back some eggnog. On the downtown mall the only thing open is the chinese restaurant. I was hoping for a slice of pizza…but there was none to be had.

The day was rather warm and sunny, and as the sun was heading down I walked over to UVA to snap a few photos. This one is my favorite.

Salad Creations opened this week after 6 months of having a coming soon sign sitting in the window. This salad place is right next to the cat store and behind the “I put the Kibosh on you” A&N store.

To go along with this, Kiki’s Juice Bar is also opened 7 days/week now. I tried the apple, orange, beet, carrot juice yesterday. Tasty. Sounds like a good lunch might be a salad and a juice.
Java Java looked very close to opening yesterday. There are tables and chairs all around, and things now on the shelves. Some painting of the interior trim of the windows was going on yesterday afternoon. I’ll keep my eyes open as I pass by today. Maybe I’ll be able to type up a blog posting from their free wifi. The Nook is also looking dark and ominous on the inside due to some of the furniture choices.
The last few days of The Hardware Store are here since the Crapshaw bought the building with cash from that bowel movement dumping band. I can’t wait to see the exciting offices that replace a restaurant with such a good outdoor area.
Time to eat some breakfast…where should I go?
