As the old Yiddish proverb says, “When the light is crooked, the shadow is crooked.” So how did this light on the pedestrian mall become crooked? Did someone shaped like a car run in to it? Or was it caused by one of those people that often start driving along the mall and then ask for directions on how to get to the hotel? Perhaps it was just the dirt sucking zamboni that runs around on the mall every morning. Should this be classified as a hit and run, or do the authorities know who was responsible? So many questions, so few answers. Only the (crooked) shadow knows.

That light has been crooked for a very long time. In fact I believe that it is so old that it is actually hysterical…um, I mean HISTORICAL! The Board of Architectural Review would be very unlikely to approve any changes, like straightening for example, of such an historic and architecturally significant feature. It gives great character to the Downtown Mall.
Funny timing on my photo…since the light was taken down this past week while I was not in town…otherwise, I’m sure I would have been there to witness the historic moment.
