Virginia will never ever ban smoking (we love a good puff here in the sticks) in restaurants, but politicians still want to fight for reelection…so this is what they have come up with.

Rather than ban smoking (the simple solution) a bill has made it through committee that will require restaurants to put a sign on their door proclaiming that the establishment allows smoking. Ooohh…now that is a crackdown on the spreading of proven carcinogens. My guess is they haven’t yet laid out rules for the size of the sign, and the lobbyists of death will get it so the sign can be as small as a sixteenth of an inch on both sides, and be placed as low as 1 inch from the bottom of the door. Can you say 1 point font?

On the HDTV front, Feb 1 is the date that the local cable said they will add one HD channel (CBS) to their system. No one has yet to report that this has occured. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow. My favorite posting on a local HD forum said, “I had HD all the way back in 2004 through Adelphia in Waynesboro, with around 15 channels, including all the networks. I can’t believe Charlottesville is this far behind.

That sums it up.
