Today the village elders will get together by the tribal fire and debate what to do about the temporary road (one of two) that crosses the pedestrian mall. Side note: how can a pedestrian mall have two roads on it? The road has now been open for a year. I’ve seen several accidents happen where the road meets Water Street (and pedestrians are constantly in fear for their lives) and forms a lovely intersection.
The estimate for making this a permanent 1 block long road was close to one million dollars (I’d love to be the contractor that won that bid).
Do you want this pedestrian mall to stay a road? Or go back to the good old days of pedestrian friendliness? I heard one guy say how he wishes it would just go back to the way it used to be…a road running the entire length of the mall so you could park next to the store you wanted to enter. Now that would be good old boy thinking!
If you have anything to say on the matter be sure you drop by the City Council chambers (aka tribal elders fire) around 7:45 this evening.

Update: Here is a really big surprise….the elders kept the road on the ‘pedestrian’ mall. Aren’t you all just shocked?
Now all you kids remember, pedestrian means car.
