I am still boggled by the number of smokers in this village. I’m sitting here watching four families, and all the parents are smoking. I wonder when the kids will start. I wonder if I’m already paying for their health problems. How dumb are the parents? How dumb am I for paying to eat at this place.
Is there even one restaurant in C-Ville that has banned outdoor smoking?
This village tries to pass itself off as a healthy lifestyle region, but they are sadly mistaken. This is not a healthy area. Obese smoking parents teaching the future generation of locals. Sad.

agreed…this is the LEAST heart or other HEALTHY town/city I have ever lived in…….why oh why haven’t they banned smoking inside many many many restaurants? other places have and it’s pleasure to eat without the smell of smoke around your food.. What’s wrong with the Doctorsn nurses, nutritionists etc…..can’t they have a series of lectures around town on healthy foods and where to get them! And on healthy life styles. I see this no where..
No question smoking should be banned from restaurants. But as a gross smoker that rarely smokes in
public, it is awful to feel so very guilty for a habit that is almost impossible to quit. Americans have
little tolerence and so many rules they wish enforced by the goverment. Having lived in Europe and traveled a lot, it is refreshing to go to other worlds that don’t judge so harshly. I am not just talking about smoking. There is not a person who smokes that thinks it is healthy and are happy they started such a habit but it happens. Considering habits of Americans vs. countries that don’t frown on a bit of tobacco use, moderate drinking and small amount of high fat food. Why do Americans die younger? I think it is because they are narow minded. What about the binge drinking in our country, drug use, guns?
Much more in American than any other place I have lived or visited. So the next time you see a vile smoker, pinch your nose and stick out your tongue. You’ll either get beaten up or given an apology. Depending on the smoker you pick.I would put out the ole thing, apologize and feel rotten for the rest of the day.If you did that in Paris, I’d tell you to F**k off :). Enjoy the heck out of your site!
Just a note. I do NOT think smoking should be banned outside. I suppose we should ban farting (no I do not do that in public!), breathing with stinky breath, talking too loudly, etc. Sometimes bikers and joggers
get on my nerves. I have to pull my car to the middle of the road (health risk), be sure I will not be hit head on or driving slowly (wasting my time) for a while because I don’t want to hit the biker/jogger or myself. I could lay on the horn, try to scare the person or a couple other nasty rude moves. Outside gives many choices, you can move, you can ask the yucky smoker to move. Inside there are fewer
choices. As it is, smoking is legal and taxed, same as booze. You could hang out somewhere redneck
smokers don’t go, though I know a bunch of rich people lighting up,have health insurance of course. I am just sick of people complaining about smokers.I don’t like really drunk people, people high on drugs and intolerent people. I just walk around them and mind my business!I wish the tax of cigs. would go to a hundred bucks a pack.In USA that would make smokers special, our country loves money. Now I’ll pull out my crack pipe, don’t hear much about that!Enjoy your site and a good debate!
[anonymous],
Your analogies stink like a smokers breath. Smoking is not the same as farting, having bad breath, biking, or jogging. What’s the matter, can’t you come up with a better argument than poor analogies to justify your position? Smoking has more to do with smoking a crack pipe and that is illegal. Come on, give me a good reason that such a proven public health hazard should be legal.
Smoking is not “…almost impossible to quit.” Millions of people have quit and many of them did it without a whole lot of trouble. The trouble that I experienced twenty years ago when I quit smoking two packs a day was nothing compared to the trouble my father had when lung cancer from smoking killed him. You too can quit, but if you don’t, you have a very good chance of eventually getting very sick.
Cordially,
Kevin
Hey Kevin,
I agree with you. I think the answer to it all is to make smoking illegal, that I agree with. You are right there are no analogies good enough to justify a position to even make smoking seem reasonable. However,
it is legal and taxed. Therefore until the day smoking becomes illegal it would be much more kind not to point mean fingers at the people using a legal substance. I hate bars and think they should be illegal.
I don’t think alcohol should be served on planes.Lottery tickets are another thing I don’t like.Do I cut on the people indulging in their perfered addiction, nope. Why make a person feel bad?Oh I forgot pain pills beloved by many.Drunk drivers, cut their heads off.Fat people, don’t feed them.Where do we stop?
Considering the problems we face daily, puffs of smoke don’t rank high on my list.I think our country has huge issues, such as drug problems, bullying other countries, crap public schools. But make smoking illegal,I would never smoke again.I am sorry your Dad died and happy you quit smoking. All I meant to say was,cut us losers some slack.I arrived home late because I couldn’t pass a biker. No big
deal,he was enjoying himself. Not to compare biking and smoking!Just live and let live.See nasty smoke, jump around. There will always be people doing harm to their bodies, always have been. There will always be a person to avoid, use a cig as a sign to stay away. But I still think banning outside is wrong.Who owns the air?A good parent knows you do not smoke in a park, but there will always be bad parents. As for addictions these days.Smoking is mild.I think you are more likely to be killed by a
druggie looking for money than second hand smoke walking through a cafe.Or a drunk driver.Just my
opinion, plus I think throwing ideas around is fun! Thanks Outskirts! Now let’s go find those kids jumping people. If everyone quit smoking, our country would not know what to do with all the old people who have no money to live on.Now there’s a point. Not a great one though. If smoking was illegal there would be no way to tell the bad persons from the good!Kidding.

Do you really think that bars should be illegal? I never did say that I thought that smoking should be illegal, I just asked you for a good reason that it should be legal. I think there is one. Like alcohol and prohibition people would still smoke just like they drank when that was illegal. There’s already a blackmarket for cigs in some areas because of high taxes. I would like to see people quit and I think that making it illegal would actually foster the smoking subculture.
I think the Surgeon General ought to put really grotesque public service ads on TV and the internet with horribly graphic pictures of people dying from lung cancer and emphysema as well as pictures of their lungs. That would probably help a lot more than expecting the cops to enforce the prohibition.
I have friends who smoke. I wish they wouldn’t but they’re still my friends and I accept them and I don’t rag on them. Well, not too much but once in a while I do say something. They’re good people too, not criminals. I’ll feel sad when they get sick and die.
How long were you stuck behind the bike anyway? For me time in traffic waiting for a bike or a light to change can seem a lot longer than it really is. I used to get all uptight but now I just chill and realize that a few seconds or even a minute or two really isn’t that big a deal.

Kevin
Outskirts,
I begged to be deleted. NOW, mercy!
You deleted my delete post. Now get to business on the real one. Kevin I was behind the biker much longer than it would take to avoid a smoker.I feel sad when anyone I care about gets sick and dies. And people get sick and die from lots of things other than smoking. Yes I hate bars and I love to drink. You get in your car drive to a bar, hopefully talk to a reasonably decent stranger, though rare in a bar, that I have found, try not to drink past the legal limit, then get in car to drive home holding your breath you don’t get a DUI.Smoking should be as legal as alcohol, so there.More people die from alcohol related sicknesses, drunk drivers than smoking. There are no reasons smoking should be legal, it just is.Same as booze. So are you saying smoking should be legal as long as no one smokes?
I think smoking is legal, same as liquor because people like it and our country wants the money from it.
Now Outskirts, please delete my first two posts or I will so blow smoke on you!
[anonymous],
Smoking should be legal because fools will do it anyway and so it may as well be legal and taxed. It is now legal for restaurants to prohibit smoking and they should all do it if they want me to buy their food.
Cordially,
Kevin
Kevin Cox, I would suggest you do not continue calling smokers “fools”.
Foolish as smoking is, if you call a smoker a “fool” you are liable to
get erased with a toilet cleaner brush or your house vandalized by chalk.
If anyone takes the time to read our stupid posts. NOTE, I never said I thought
smoking should be in restaurants. Kevin Cox, you complain about a lot of things
in our village, not just smokers. This little debate was anything but cordial.
I surrender, you win, good job!

I do agree about many things y’all discussed - but what about what happening in the so called white house people - we are infected by becoming a plutocratic society - and any opinions on how we can overcome? WTF is going on?
[anonymous],
What do I win? Maybe a cigarette holder or a lighter? If you can’t take the heat than I guess leaving is the right thing for you to do.
With what is known about smoking today I stand by what I said, people who smoke are foolish. Please, for your own sake, stop smoking. Millions have quit and so can you.
Cordially,
Kevin
Palestar,
This thread is wandering and I love to go for a stroll so let’s roll!
First though, I looked up “plutocracy” to be sure that I keep to the topic.
Here’s what I found: “The term “plutocracy” is formally defined as government by the wealthy, and is also sometimes used to refer to a wealthy class that controls a government, often from behind the scenes. More generally, a plutocracy is any form of government in which the wealthy exercise the preponderance of political power, whether directly or indirectly.”
My mind is kind of a jumble of thoughts on this so I’ll just let them spill out.
It seems to me that we have always had a government that has been strongly influenced, manipulated and even controlled by the wealthy. Many of the Founding Fathers (not all) were wealthy.
Even so, things have happened in the past in our country that helped the common person at the expense of the wealthy. The mandated 40 hour work week, workmens compensation laws and the rise of unions for example.
Wealth hasn’t been a requirement for leadership and we have seen many people who did not have real wealth assume government power. Harry Truman comes to mind.
I do think that there is a lack of concern for what is happening in the White House among the majority of people in the country. Many people don’t care about tax breaks for the rich or corporate wrongdoing. A few do care and they complain loudly and the media blares those complaints. Most though, just change the channel and find some entertainment. They don’t have to care. It’s like the bread and circuses of the Romans. People have enough to keep them fat and happy and so they don’t get really, really mad and take action. The drift towards plutocratic society isn’t going to change until the proletariat starts hurting and then gets angry. It’s a lesson that the communists in China have put to good use lately. I’m comfortabe right now and so are most people, especially most of those who actually vote. The people who are getting hurt the most and have the least are also the ones least likely to use the power of the ballot. Poor citizens generally don’t want to vote and non-citizen workers can’t. In spite of that, the minimum wage is getting raised.
I do think it’s pretty clear that the voters are going to elect a democrat but I’m not sure if that’s not just a different expensive coat on the same old plutocrat.
Cordially,
Kevin
Why would anyone classify smokers as “fools?!” I know plenty of smokers who would NEVER be described as fools.
We should not judge people based on whether they smoke or not, or whether they drink or not. Smoking a few cigarettes a day is no worse than most habits we aquire. Don’t we all need need a “vice?” We recently had a good friend die young from lung cancer, not caused by smoking. We will all die from something, and much of the time what kills us has no relationship to how we lived our life. As long as we don’t harm others with our habits (whatever they may be) we should be allowed to exist without being labeled fools.
And for the record, I do not smoke.
I thought I would never type to you again, Kevin. Now you are picking on Palestar. I think this person seems a okay, but you find fault with everything and everybody. I am so sick to death of people like you. My last name in Camp, Google that in the UVA system and you will see this wealthy smoker has made all of your lively hood possible. So now you don’t like smokers or other suggestions than your own. You should be happy there are “wealthy” people that pay for your lifesytle.Bro get your toilet scrubber brush, you should not be
allow to influence the children at UVA. No, I will never send one of
four children to UVA, because that wonderful school of education has turned so P.T.A, , thanks to the likes of you! I mean that!
Thanks for noticing - I did mean to go off thread - mainly because I feel we need to stop talking and start doing something - and yes as far as what party - no matter who - is will be same same same.
Minimum wage is hardly being raised - comes under the heading a lick and a promise - congress should receive the same rate of pay.
The worlds biggest problems are Apathy - Complacency - Denial…
Thanks Doc - for allowing me to vent on your site and off topic - I had to do it. Thanks Keith - FYI - I am neither a republican - democrat - or anything close. I am a fiscal conservative - I want accountability - you know - who - what - where -how much and why? Guess I am just more pragmatic than I was when I was but a wee child
I really just pray that we will muster the guts to kicks some ass [oops!] and clean house - Florida proved that some votes can be manipulated and some folks don’t think their votes count so the do not vote - what to do?
Kevin, For this you own. People want to f**ck with people like you,
not only in Paris but also Viginia. So suck on my butt , loser. Enjoy all the free stuff you use in C’ville. Public ed, freedom walls, free music at Fri. after five!
I bet is at the end of the day you need a bar with booze because that that is the only place anyone would even talk to you. I bet you are divorced and lonely. You are lucky, at your age you can meet people just as unhappy at thoses places and you all can share stories about every person that wants all of you NOT in our town. I’d rather be a nasty smoker, than a nasty human being.Feel good.
I “surrendered” and guess what, you won the cig. holder or lighter,
you pick. It will be the only thing you wake up with in the morning.
Now leave me alone and the rest of Ch”ville you “fool”. You make smokers look a hell of a sight more attractive than you and I saw you r picture. Trust me, the smokers I know would not give you the time of day, suck on that! You are a mean narrow mind person that has traveled to maybe Nelson County. You are mean, [anonymous] cAMP
Definitely time to close this thread.
